Hello friends of ATLAS — Welcome to our August 2024 update.

Celebrating 50 years of the Carmelite Sisters in Timor-Leste
On August 27th 1974, the Carmelite Sisters began their mission in Timor-Leste. The following year, 1975, saw Timor being invaded by Indonesia.
The Sisters are all Timorese. They cared for and educated many orphaned children during the twenty-four years under Indonesian rule and continue to do great work in caring for orphaned children and in the community in the areas of education and health.
ATLAS is proud to work alongside the Sisters in Timor, especially at St Therese’s Orphanage at Maubara and the Maubara Kindergarten.
ATLAS supports girls living in accommodation provided by the Sisters at both Maubara and Fatuhada to continue their studies at the senior secondary level.
ATLAS also supports Tertiary students.
ATLAS has also supported the Sisters for programs such as sewing and the production of Marungi.
The support of these Projects would have been impossible without the ongoing generosity of you, our donors.
